The 2010 recipient of the McLean County Chamber of Commerce’s Top Administrative Professional Award almost didn’t make the luncheon.
When Pat Grosso, Chamber Operations Manager and liaison for the event, noticed that Vivian Downing wasn’t on the reservations list, it took a bit of scrambling to ensure not only that was Downing at the Doubletree Hotel and Conference Center on Wednesday, April 21 for the Chamber’s Administrative Professionals Luncheon, but she was also completely surprised when her name was read by last year’s winner, Tricia Stiller of the Downtown Bloomington Association.
“Wow. Goodness. I’m overwhelmed,” said Downing, Executive Assistant to the President of Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, who was quick to give credit to others. “I do just have to say that I work with a fantastic executive team at Advocate BroMenn, and a fantastic community board, but in addition to that, a fantastic, wonderful group of executive assistants who make me look really good. So, to all of them, I share this.”
Downing received a glowing nomination from Susan Rigo, M.A., FAHP, Vice President, Advocate BroMenn Office of Charitable Giving. “Vivian assures the smooth operation of the executive’s office, thus enabling clear lines of communication to executive staff, and others who require a line to the CEO,” wrote Rigo, “(She) is the embodiment of the values that are held by Advocate BroMenn and has served as a mentor and model for administrative professions throughout our organization. “
The Administrative Luncheon’s keynote address was delivered by Illinois State University Director of Athletics, Dr. Sheahon Zenger, who tailored his message to fit the theme for Administrative Professionals Week, the Power of Commitment. “The power of commitment is really the power of choice,” said Zenger. “And the first choice needs to be one of gratitude. If we begin with gratitude, I think that we will then make the right choices that follow.”
