40th Anniversary Easter Seals Telethon Breaks Record Exceeds $2.5 Million

March 9, 2015 – The 40th Anniversary Easter Seals Telethon held Saturday, March 7, signed off the air with a record-breaking total of $2,563,251.  The telethon was broadcast live on WMBD 31 from the Par-A-Dice Hotel in East Peoria.  More than 200 volunteers joined forces with donors, families and friends for an evening of inspiration, celebration and support.

Adam and Marie White and Trent Tippey co-chaired the VIP Campaign and hundreds of volunteers joined forces throughout central Illinois to raise money in the weeks leading up to the telethon.  The VIP Campaign generated over $882,000.  Adam White expressed his gratitude saying, “We are so inspired by each of you!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your passion and dedication to help the kids.”

Bob Larson, recently retired from WMBD, and local business leader John Bearce joined us to share some of their special telethon memories.

Alex Camacho, age 8, and his family presented a check to Easter Seals on behalf of Team Alex.  Alex, who has Cerebral Palsy, has been an Easter Seals child for over 7 years.  “Easter Seals has never let us down,” said Susie Camacho, Alex’s grandmother.  She added, “It’s just really important that children with disabilities reach their full potential; just as every child needs to reach their full potential in this world.”

The funds raised will provide more than 21,300 of specialized pediatric therapy services.  Steve Thompson, Easter Seals CEO, said, “The Easter Seals Telethon has become a celebration of the year-round giving that makes Easter Seals programs and services possible.  This is a remarkable outcome for some pretty special kids.”

Easter Seals is the champion for abilities, opening new pathways to opportunities, so that every child can reach for and realize their full potential.  We take a complete approach, working with the whole family to help children with disabilities, autism, developmental delays and other special needs reach new milestones each and every day.
