I am pleased to share that OSF HealthCare and Presence Health have signed a Letter of Intent for OSF to take ownership of Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Illinois and Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, Illinois.
Our two organizations are currently finalizing the agreement and will then seek all necessary regulatory and canonical approvals. The transaction is expected to close during the first quarter of calendar year 2018. At that time, The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis will become the ministry sponsor as OSF HealthCare.
Regarding this next phase in expanding our Ministry to those we serve, I think Sister Judith Ann says it best, “This summer marks 140 years since the founding of our health care Ministry, built on the promise to serve with the greatest care and love. I can think of no more joyous way to celebrate the occasion than by extending the OSF HealthCare Mission to Urbana and Danville. This transfer of ownership ensures high-quality Catholic hospital services will continue in these communities we have been called to serve.”
OSF HealthCare is looking forward to these two hospitals becoming part of the OSF Ministry. The Urbana and Danville communities are vibrant areas and will help extend the OSF HealthCare Ministry to patients throughout Illinois. We will work closely with the Presence Health team to ensure a smooth transition for the Associates now employed at these hospitals and will continue to provide you with information about next steps as we move through the process.
The opportunity to take care of the health and wellness needs in these communities perfectly aligns with our vision to transform health care to improve the lives of those we serve. We look forward to welcoming the Associates who are now employed by Presence Health into our family of Mission Partners. This is exciting news for OSF HealthCare and furthers our goal of creating healthier communities so all can live a fuller life.
