Learning and Doing: Managing the Conflict

Learning, as we discussed last time, can help us perform better.  However, every hour we spend learning takes time away from production.  Abe Lincoln said that if he had eight hours to chop down a tree, he would spend six of them sharpening his axe.  Nice story, but is that realistic?

Today's talk will focus on identifying the conflict between learning and doing.  What is the right amount of planning and strategy development?  How can you prevent paralysis by analysis?  How can you make sure that what you and your employees are learning is relevant?
