About COMPACT

The McLean County Community COMPACT champions the region's educational and training institutions, resources, and programs that enables Bloomington-Normal's existing and future employers to cultivate, retain, and attract the talent that they need.

COMPACT was initially formed under the U of I Extension program before moving under the supervision of Heartland Community College. With the development of BN Advantage in 2015 and the implementation of a Workforce Development Committee in 2016 championed by the McLean County Chamber of Commerce, COMPACT combined the volunteer efforts of the many educational leaders throughout McLean County supporting COMPACT and formed as a subsidiary under the Chamber in 2018.

COMPACT's three main goals are:

  1. Improve communication and coordination between regional employers and education training institutions to better prepare for the talent and skill needs of Bloomington-Normal's firms
  2. Achieve and sustain a strong business-education partnership at the K-12 level
  3. Increase private sector participation in and supporting of mentorship programs for K-12 students
