Connecting Local Talent with Opportunity at the Spring Job Fair

The McLean County Chamber of Commerce hosted a highly successful Spring Job Fair, presented by Wilber, yesterday, Tuesday April 14th at Heartland Community College. The event drew in more than 400 eager job seekers who came ready to connect with over 45 employers from a wide range of industries.

"Last year’s Spring Job Fair led us to hire three individuals for our security department, all of whom are still with Carle and enjoying their roles. That kind of success is what brought us back this year and with such a strong turnout, we’re looking forward to what comes next," said Ryan Homan, Security Supervisor at Carle BroMenn Medical Center.

Events like these are essential in today’s evolving labor market, providing employers with direct access to qualified candidates while giving job seekers the opportunity to engage face-to-face, explore career pathways, and build meaningful connections that often lead to long-term employment.

“You get to talk to people one-on-one, it's a more personalized interaction, and you get to know candidates better," said Justin Lawson, VP Branch Manager at PNC when reflecting on why his company decided to participate in the job fair. "Doing everything online doesn't have a personalized touch. Getting in front of people and having conversation can make it a lot easier to hire the right people."

In addition to connecting with employers, attendees also had access to free professional development services. Express Employment Professionals provided personalized resume reviews, Mazter Mindz Media offered professional headshots, and Heartland Community College shared about their essential workplace skills training program.

"Having a good resume is important because that is the first thing companies see. Most of the resumes I reviewed today needed very minor fixes, but I think people enjoyed having a human eye review it and offer a boost of encouragement, " said Brittany Patterson, Employment Specialist at Express Employment Professionals.

With such a strong response from both employers and job seekers, the Chamber looks ahead with optimism and is planning to host another Job Fair this Fall—continuing its commitment to empowering individuals and enriching the local economy. This job fair will be a part of Bloomington-Normal Workforce Week with additional details coming soon.
